Conference Rankings Explained
Conf Rating
Average Massey computer rating of all member teams. This is the primary sorting column — conferences with stronger teams across the board rank higher. Higher is better.
Median Rating
The middle Massey rating among all member teams when sorted by strength. Unlike the average, the median is not skewed by one outlier team — it better reflects how strong a typical team in the conference is.
Avg Division
Average MHSAA division number of member teams (1–8, where 1 is the largest). A lower average means the conference is top-heavy with large-school teams; a higher average skews smaller.
Non-Con Record
Combined win-loss record of all member teams in games played outside the conference. A winning non-conference record shows the conference competes well against the broader field.
Non-Con SOS
Average computer rating of opponents faced in non-conference games. A high SOS means the conference is scheduling tough opponents outside the league — making their non-con record more meaningful.
Teams
Number of member teams active in the current season. Larger conferences have more games and a broader sample for the rating average; smaller conferences may have more variation.
